Blog of the Year

One of my friends on facebook made herself a fan of this blog, and once I looked it up, I was stunned. If you've had any experience with cakes and getting them done through bakeries, this will make you laugh 'til you explode.

My mom was a good with cakes. I suck. That's why I usually have someone else do it. I want to learn...but not if I have to create something like this first.

I do, however, decorate some lovely Christmas cookies. I will take some pics of the ones I create this year.

Christmas Cookie Swap

Okay, JoAnn at the Creamer Chronicles has convinced me to join her virtual Christmas Cookie Swap. Here's mine (which aren't baked yet this year).

Candy Cane Cookies

2 cups Crisco (1/3 of this can be butter if desired)
2 cups powdered sugar
2 eggs
3 tsps almond flavoring
2 tsps vanilla
5 cups flour sifted
2 tsps salt
1 tsp red food coloring

Heat oven to 375.

Mix well Crisco sugar ,eggs, flavorings. Mix flour, salt and stir in. Divide dough in half. Blend red food coloring into half the dough. Roll 1 tsp each color dough on lightly floured board into a strip 4” long- place strips side by side, press lightly together and twist like a rope. Put on ungreased baking sheet, curve top down for handle.

Bake 9 min or until lightly browned. Remove while still warm. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Success Tip
Measure the flour carefully or these cookies will be too dry to mold the dough. When you measure the flour, spoon it into measuring cup and scrape excess off the top, otherwise you will have too much flour.

Make one complete cookie, one at a time. If all the dough of one color is shaped first the dough becomes too dry.

The Advent Conspiracy

Something I think I'll do this year:
